Niles Scientific is a bioinformatics software development company based in San Francisco and founded by some of the principal players in the former Niles Software, Inc., developer of EndNote®.¹
Richard Niles has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, and before founding Niles Software, Inc. worked as a research Engineer for SRI in Menlo Park on digital image processing. It was the SRI experience that provided the inspiration for the grid-making algorithm used in SpotReader.
Christine Martens has a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Iowa and is the lead scientist at Niles Scientific. Previously, she was Director of Molecular Pharmacology at Affymax Research Institute. She has extensive laboratory and management experience in academic, biotech and pharmaceutical research labs. She used EndNote to help prepare more than 35 published research papers.
Tristram Shandy is the lead developer of SpotReader. He was the principal developer on the Windows version of EndNote and on the Online Database Connection feature of EndNote. He honed his design and engineering skills working for IBM, Apple, and several major software publishers.
Randy Posynick has a B.Sc. in Computing Science from the University of Alberta and designed several components of SpotReader. He worked on EndNote for many years and has gained extensive software development experience contracting for Disney, Apple, Microsoft, Netscape, and the University of California.
